Fluorescent Parking Lot Lights
Old style fluorescent parking lot lights still in use at this older plaza. Most of the original fixtures are still there, the only ones that were replaced was probably due to a pole knockdown.

Anyways here's the [url=http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=43.882527,-79.440461&spn=0.015187,0.041928&t=m&z=15&vpsrc=6&layer=c&cbll=43.882527,-79.440461&panoid=C5UExxDIR8TBxO4Y1DE41w&cbp=12,326.38,,0,-7.78]Streetview.[/url]

The parking lot looks pretty dim. I see you have some snow. All we have is ice cold rain. What fixtures were the replacments?
joe_347V   [Dec 30, 2011 at 03:38 AM]
It's actually brighter in reality, I had to set to exposure lower to prevent the picture from blurring. You can see the replacement lumes in the Streetview, they look like GEs to me.

It started snowing a lot here this past week, the weeks before we had cold rain, wet snow or freezing rain instead.

Ahh. I did see the new lights in streetview, but I couldn't tell what they were. My guess was OVM, but those don't seem common up there...

Good to see oldie fluorescents in sevice. Cool
joe_347V   [Dec 30, 2011 at 09:04 PM]
Yeah not much of these left here, there's still a street lit up with fluorescents north of me but some have been replaced with HPS.

I don't think fluorescent streetlights were ever used here. It turns out we did have a few LPS, although they never got popular.

Here's those fluorescent streetlights I was talking about: Day|Night

Nice. Fluorescent streetlights have a nice soft glow with absolutly no glare. Very Happy

Bad news, I went by them tonight and a few of the poles have new pole bases next to them, I'm guessing some shoe containers or metal waffles will be going up soon... Confused
GullWhiz   [Dec 12, 2012 at 05:45 AM]
Well Joe....maybe no new poles, just moving them? (unlikely, but my local McDonald's had those 80s and 90s flood lights on poles happen to be transferred to new pole base, at first I thought they were going to be replacing the whole pole and fixtures, nope, they simply made new bases and moved them!)
streetlight98   [Jul 08, 2013 at 02:12 AM]
did they ever replace them? Sad
joe_347V   [Jul 08, 2013 at 03:59 AM]
To be honest, I'm not sure. Neutral

Road trip time? Very Happy

I wanna say I've seen fluorescent "gas station lights" in person but I'm honestly not sure. It would've been in CA for sure if it was.
California has (or had as of over a year ago now) plenty of private mercs left. And the San Jose area is/was predominately LPS, except the Caltrans freeways, which were HPS.
streetlight98   [Apr 20, 2015 at 12:06 AM]
According to the streetview, they were indeed replaced with LED shoeboxes. They kept some fluorescents though, just replacing the ones in front of No Frills.

I've seen fluorescent streetlights at old gas-stations, and a car-wash too.
Massive old beasts, I bet those things weigh a ton!
Would love to have one though...

Fluorescent streetlights used to used here on some downtown streets and expressways back in the 70s along with some gas stations. I don't know why they only did a partial replacement at the lot though. I wonder if the remaining fluorescents still work.

Nice to see that there are still some in use!
