4 types of tubes in my collection: a F13T5 on far left, F17T8 second left, a F20T10 (no typo, it is ACTUALLY a T10 tube that I got from a old Japanese table lamp), and a F34T12 (alto)
Is the F17T8 24" long? If so, most T8 electronic ballasts sold in hardware stores can run it. Otherwise it may be an appliance tube, which works on 14-20W preheat chokes.
The F20T10 is most likely going to work fine on any 14-20W preheat choke or trigger start ballast.
I think he meant a ballast for T17 lamps. You can buy one here for a hefty price, but i think it's well worth it if you had a fixture for one that needed a new ballast.
Ahh. Yeah F17T8 tubes are the same as F20T12 tubes in terms of length. They should work fine on a preheat choke, an eletronic F17T8 ballast, or if you have two lamps, a F32T8 ballast with the 17 watt tubes wired in series.
I've never seen any T17 stuff here locally, but I got a half dozen F40T17 lamps off eBay (just used a 2-lamp F32T8 electronic ballast wired for 2x overdrive to power one of them)
The thing I'd really love to find (and never see even on eBay) is some T17 lampholders/sockets.
I've seen F90T17 starters on eBay plenty of times..shouldn't be a problem for you to get those (starter sockets for those I've never seen though)
have also occasionally seen F90T17 ballasts there too.
I run the F17T8 on the F15T8 preheater circuit, and the F20T10 on a F20T12 rapid start. The F13T8 is run from a Fulham Workhorse 3.
I run the F34T12 using a F32T8/F40T12 system.
P.S. What is 'trigger start'
