It is a Holophane refractor. All coopers came with Holophane glass refractors if ordered with a glass refractor. Of this design too. It was common for Coopers to have these. All the way from the OV-15.
I wonder why they used gold NEMA tags instead of yellow... The gold ones faded much easier and after a while looked silver, but the yellow ones never had that problem.. Even for ones that have been in use for years.
How does the gold fade away? Jace told me about sunlight.. but I dunno how that makes it fade away.
Well, here the yellow ones turn white after a while. There are some 1993 M-250R2 here that have virtually white HPS labels. I think it has to do with snow- if there's a lot of snow on the ground it almost acts like a mirror, and reflects sunlight up at the label. Just a guess. But it's not just the metallic tags that fade. I think every company used metallic NEMA labels for HPS from the time they started using them up to the late 80's-early 90's.
Seems the metallic ones fade more easily. Some Yellow NEMA tags are just fine, my 1992 AE 325, has the nema tag as yellow as it ever was, and that one HAS seen lots of service. And also my M-400 R2. (both of them) They NEMA tags are still very yellow. So the yellow ones are better. I mean some of them may fade but most of them don't...
It also depends on the quality of the label. Some labels are made at a lower price by using cheaper ink that fades easier. I do agree with you that the metallic ones fade much more often. i've never seen a metallic label here that still has its golden hue.
Hey Darren, this is the OVS I Have given you, What have you done with it so far? Any modifications? Ballast? Can you take a picture of it so I know it arrived well?
Hey Ian,I took a pic and will post it when I get a chance,I did send you a message the day I received it to let you know it arrived safely, maybe the message didn't go through.I haven't had a chance to put in a ballast yet,but I plan on using a 150W GE HPS ballast from a damaged fixture that should fit perfectly.
I am sending him the whole ballast when I Send him the OVX. But I have my extra ballast that I can try to see if I can use things, with the capacitor and ignitor, the ignitor is three wire and it says "For use only with Advance ballasts" so I might not be ale to use the ignitor. But the GE capacitor I might be able to use.
