That's very common, seen it all the time when we used Philips in my local electric company, but now we are using GEs but havent heard about broken weilds
I had a Phillips 175 watt mercury vapor lamp fail just after 6 months, now I use Sylvania 175 watt mercury vapor lamps. I will never buy another Phailure lamp.
Actually Alex, Philips MV do better than GE mercury vapor today....it may just be one of few defects......Sylivania is better though for MV but we are talking about HPS in this page
That ceramic insulator looks terribly cheap... They sure want the lamps to cost as little as possible to manufacture.
Even for HPS Sylvania seems to be the best! American and Canadian GEs were flawless but apparently Hugarian ones are not as good. And Philips ones... heh, no need to talk about them xD
The GE HPS lamps don't seem to bad here. They're very yellow though almost like LPS. they appear brighter than older HPS lamps, but the color is just sickening. The 100W GE mercs they use here seem to do well too. I think sylvania has the best quality with HPS, MV, and probe start MH. i'm not a huge fan of Sylvania's pink colored phosphors, but they make the quality of the light the best I've seen from mercury vapor lamps. Phillips seems to be the best with ceramic metal halide from what I've heard.
