Nice! Why is it 48W? Neutral Ballast losses?
TiCoune66   [Sep 04, 2012 at 10:05 PM]
Yup, there's 8W of ballast losses (not including the reactive power).
streetlight98   [Sep 04, 2012 at 10:27 PM]
Is that true for F40 preheat ballasts too?
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2012 at 03:02 AM]
Yep, the ballast loses a few watts, the wasted power is wasted in the form of heat, sound, and vibrations.
streetlight98   [Sep 05, 2012 at 03:06 AM]
So as the ballast ages, will it have more and more losses to due greater vibration if the coils loosen up a bit over time?
joe_347V   [Sep 05, 2012 at 03:09 AM]
I think the loss should stay the same but it gets noisier because the tar potting which muffles the sound hardens and dosen't work as well.
