Yeah i always find some interesting lighting in churches lol. My aunt and uncles church has those 300w reflector "UFO" lights in the basement and F40T12s down there as well with some DURO-TEST lamps in the hallway. I get a sort of creepy feeling when i'm down there alone though. I just can't go down that hall alone lol.
My first Elementary school built around 1963-1964 had those similar fixtures, but with F40T12. I was there from 1988-1990. The school has since been renovated, but shape of the school looks similar, although not exactly the same.
My elementary school was built in 1992, my middle school was built in 1970, and my current (high) school was built sometime in the 50s. I think it was like 1957 or something...
My elementary school was a group of two buildings that used to be couvents. The oldest one is for kindergarten to 3rd grade and was originally built around 1912. The second building (for 4th to 6th grade) was first built around 1917 but burned down in 1936 and has been rebuilt. The exterior walls have not been destroyed though.
Being so old, there's a mix of incandescents, T8s, T12s, MH, HPS and mercury LOL.
In my elementary school, fixturs similar to this were hanging from rods/pipes. The older bungaloes had F40 with preheat ballasts, cool watching them all blink on.
Interesting. The F40T12 preheaters in my cousin's late grandpa's garage/workshop (well the one good lamp out of the six) simply just comes on without blinking a couple seconds after the switch is flipped. There's a one lamp F40T12/RS light that looks very 1960s that I want to try to get from them. It's not hooked up and has enough dust on it to stuff a teddy bear lol. Still has a lamp in it too! I doubt the lamp works though. It was a blackender but I don't know the brand... I'll check it out when I fix up the three two lamp preheaters that are hanging up. There's one 2X F32T8/IS cheapo shoplite that i assume repalced the fourth preheater. He became ill before the other three were repalced though. There's a box of 10 altos (two gone, which are in the F32 shoplite) and three additional F32 shoplites still in the box in the back behind the retired 1X F40 RS light i mentioned earlier. Nowhere did i find replacement lamps or starters for the F40 preheaters though. They were probably in the basement, but i bought new Sylvania F40T12 cool white deluxe lamps and HN starters with my own money.
Wow, those are awesome fixtures! I love the random-drilled ceiling tiles above the fixtures as well - those awesome lights plus the old tiling is pure 50s!
