Paulding In - Line Screw Cap Sockets These sockets are designed for attaching to heavy gauge (#16 to #10 gauge) twisted pair wiring and the pins pierces through the insulation to make the electrical connection. A lot of carnival and even holiday lighting is made from several of these sockets and a lot of twisted pair wires. Found these from the same yard sale where I came home with the Westy & GE 40 watt ceramic blue bulbs, The wiring that these were on was old cloth covered wires that were very brittle and that wire was discarded. Hmm, I think Leviton still makes something similar. And yeah the old cloth wires get brittle over time, I have some from old traffic lights that are pretty brittle.

Cloth covered wire does look great with older fixtures, appliances and other equipment but the bad thing the rubber insulation tends to dry out and become brittle and any excessive flexing will crack the insulation and leaving exposed copper, yikes! Shocked I had to ditch a lot of this wire from old lamps. But there is newer cloth covered from Sundial Wire, here they use PVC instead of rubber for insulation underneath the cotton braids. http://www.sundialwire.com/clothcoveredwire.aspx Joe_347V, you might want to check them out.

We have a similar socket where 2 spikes make contact through our standard cable not twisted but flat profile used on outside illumination.
