The increased wattage ComEd bulbs you see are because apparently that was a trick to make you use MORE electricity I guess Laughing
The 34 watt ones are likely a reduced/california-type wattage energy saver version of 40w bulbs...

you're right Andy. I remember Dave pointing that out to me. Originally i thought they were rough service lamps and the extra wattage was to compensate for lower lumens per watt but nope, just a scam lol. i noticed the lamp life if longer so perhaps they did try to compensate for lower lumens per watt and at the same time sell more electricity? also note the different lumen ratings on the two 41W boxes. Neutral

Actually I've heard others say that it's to compensate for the drop in wattage of an incandescent the tungsten evaporates over time. For example this one start off at 41w but at EOL it's more close to 39w, hence the 40w average watts.

nice find! Smile interesting they came all the way to canada.

Yeah, I've also wondered if incandescent bulbs "lose" wattage myself...
But if these were extended-life bulbs with reduced lumen output, the slightly increased wattage would make sense.

Thanks Dave! I was a bit surprised to see them show up in Canada.

Wow! Very Happy This is the first I have seen the energy saver bulb sold via Commonwealth Edison utility company Very Happy

Interestingly, the newer 41 Watts version shows that it has higher lumen than the old 41 Watts version Confused
