Fortran Beacon
Old style aluminum Fortran beacon. It was probably installed in the 90s as a replacement. The design of these hasn't changed much from the 1940s era GE Grooveback design. Note the nifty looking mushroom cap on it too.

The beacon dosen't work though.

you should open it up and install a nice clear 150w incandescent from the nearest Lowe's. Razz Very Happy or if you can find a 135W signa lamp even better!

Heh, I have a bunch of 116 and 135w signal lamps but I can't seem to find the 60w or 69w ones.

I'm surprised it's mounted this low though. Normally the beacon is mounted on top of the keep right sign.

yeah seems rather odd... it seems like the beacon is more subject to abuse lower down (plows compacting snow, cars splashing rain puddles all over it, the signal itself could eb in danger of being submerged if a flood were to happen, and vandalism too).

Yeah, I guess that's why the other islands have missing beacons on them. Personally I would have mounted it on top the "Keep Right" sign.

It seems to have held up over the last 20 years or so though.

Fixed the link, this has a plastic lens. No cracks but had dulled with age though.

This beacon is still there according to Google, but the cap on it walked off in 2014. Rolling Eyes
