MTO Truss Arms
|
Here's a shot featuring both types of MTO truss arms. The ones on the freeway lanes are the more common 6 foot version while the one lighting the ramp is the less common 10 footer.
The six foot trusses used to be quite common before MTO started installing highmast and using tapered e arms for cobraheads. The ten foots were less common since only ramps used them but I've seen MTO in recent years using them again to light ramps and overpasses. I'm not sure why they switched back to truss but hey I ain't complaining about the change.
Also there's a arm in this pic which I'm sure used to hold a clamshell...

I noticed they also got rid of the concrete poles on the QEW in Mississauga while keeping the metal truss poles. The LEDs look better on the truss poles than on the tapered e poles to me.
Not so sure about the Gardiner, the city of Toronto seemed to have installed new concrete poles in 2006 when they replaced the centre median barrier so those might stay for a while.
Yeah that was a strange install. Im pretty sure the lights were just transferred from the old poles too. I remember seeing a Model 25 and an OV-25 on there too when they were first installed, they must have replaced them shortly after.
Heh, must have been a Toronto low budget install, yeah they must replaced them soon since all I remember seeing are 125s on those new poles.
