Inside a LPS Crosswalk Sign
Here's a shot of the 135w LPS lamp inside the LPS crosswalk signs used here. This is the shorter one too, there's a longer one with two 135w LPS lamps inside.

Beacons are poly 12" Fortran heads with amber Dialight LEDs.

As you can see they run these 24/7 on purpose...apparently it makes the sign more visible during the day.

won't the LPS lamp suffer from running 24/7 like an HID would?

I think only quartz MH is not recommended for 24/7 operation.

Thanks, these are quite common in Toronto but in the suburbs they're being replaced with mid-block traffic signals.

I wonder what's the plan with these after 2020 after Philips discontinues the last of the LPS lamps. I'm guessing some sort of LED, hopefully they use yellow ones to keep the caution yellow lighting. I've seen some privately owned ones get retrofitted with 6500K LEDs though.

If they think like RIDOT they'll just let them dayburn until they burn out and then either just leave them dead or replace them with LEDs or diamond grade signs months after they burn out lol.

Well, I noticed one these signs the other day that received an LED retrofit. I guess it was inevitable with the production of LPS lamps ending in the next year. I do wish they used amber LEDs instead of your typical 4000K white LED. The old LPS lights made for good caution yellow effect over the crosswalk.

Agh too bad, lighting is getting more and more boring nowadays. Everything is going full LED Sad Laughing
