Vossloh-Schwabe Electronic MH ballast
another autozone find when we upraded to induction 35W
its a german company thats about all i know about VS

i wonder why they dont approve it for Open rated lamps? it works fine with them
i have 3 of these..the forth one was a replacement Fcan magnetic ballast with 175W probe start sylvania lamp

weird about the open-rated lamp thing. Neutral is this electronic?
A_lights   [Aug 04, 2013 at 04:56 AM]
yeah Smile

I think these might have EOL shutdown. I have a 39w version and it shuts down if I stick a leaked lamp on it.

Odd about the open lamp thing too, I think they're electrically the same anyway.
streetlight98   [Aug 04, 2013 at 04:41 PM]
yep it says it has EOL shut down on it but it takes 30 minutes to shut off and about 10 seconds to start a new lamp. I wonder if an EOL lamp would destroy an electronic HID ballast.

i have to try an EOL lamp on this sometime. will let you know the results
the strange thing is the restrike is a lot longer on this ballast and the advance e-Vision then a normal magnetic ballast, and there is no flicker whatsoever when re-striking, it just pops back on with a flash
joe_347V   [Aug 04, 2013 at 11:54 PM]
I wonder if the ballast senses when to restrike so it dosen't apply power to the lamp until it has cooled down enough. That might be why the lamp dosen't flicker during a restrike.
streetlight98   [Aug 05, 2013 at 01:30 AM]
maybe... why do HID lamps need to cool down a bit before restriking? i've always wondered about that but i guess i've never given it too much thought really. is there a reason some lamp types take longer to restrike?
A_lights   [Aug 05, 2013 at 02:24 AM]
the mercury atoms are farther appart when the lamp is hot, when the molecules get closer together the ignitor can restrike it because the voltage goes down
streetlight98   [Aug 05, 2013 at 02:56 AM]
Ahh Why not have higher voltage starting resistors or higher voltage ignitors? would that shorten the life of the lamp?
A_lights   [Aug 05, 2013 at 03:38 AM]
there are special instant restike ignitors they are probably expensive! it takes 30-60,000 volts to restrike a hot lamp tho Shocked see here
streetlight98   [Aug 05, 2013 at 04:40 AM]
wow Shocked yeah by the sounds of it you need special wires and sockets too.
joe_347V   [Aug 05, 2013 at 05:22 AM]
Shocked That's some pretty high voltage. Have you ever seen one in use?

I guess it must be pretty expensive too since halogen restrike lamps are still commonly used.
