why does the bulb stick out the bottom? It's the same size as a 175W lamp so it shouldn't stick out. Neutral

Hmm, maybe the retrofit kit has a socket that stuck out more. IIRC, NEMA retrofit kits are basically the entire ballast and socket assembly so the socket on the new one might hand down lower.

they are the entire ballastand socket assembly. even the OEM NEMAs used the same bracket, as my Westie NEMA is like that. A 175W lamp doesn't extend below the lens in that (though it is a 100W unit).

Is that a shorter than normal head? if so i guess that's why it hangs lower but i thought they were all a standard height...

Even my really old incandescent Powerlite NEMA has the same mounting hole pattern. Razz It seems the modern NEMAs don't really have the ballast mounted like that though. I think AEL NEMA ballasts mount similar to what you would see in a yardlight. And well, GE uses their own custom mount.
