this was truely a HPS-designed light. i don't think you can even fit a ED37 lamp in the OVF/Y/D because the reflector is too shallow. An OV-25 reflector won't fit in this either because its too deep to fit in the housing (assuming you were able to modify the socket position and find a way to mount it anyways)
I checked my older OVD, OVY, and OVF catalogs. ED37/BT37 lamps can be used with the OVD but on the OVY and OVF catalogs it says that only ED28 lamps can be used. I guess only the OVD was available in 400W MV from the factory.
I guess the small optical area is why the OVFs around here tend to cycle fast. I've noticed FCO fixtures tend to have the lamps start cycling earlier than drop lens fixtures (though M-250R2/A2 FCOs don't seem to have this problem, maybe due to the bumpy reflector design?
