Too bad they probably got crushed or scrapped. Neutral Technically they're supposed to remove them before demo since they have PCB ballasts but I find they sometimes just demo the building with the lights still up.

Man, there has to be one of these old buildings somewhere with a ton of old T17 units still in place.

yeah they're long gone now... Sad yeah plus the lamps have Hg in them too... I hope someone here or on LG finds a T17 building. Cool Very Happy

thanks! I was just on street view looking at the bridges under an interchange that's being worked on and i was going down the road and i was like "Wait, I see fluoros!" Very Happy

Well, I guess John (dieselnut) on LG probably came across one since he managed to salvage a lot of T17 fixtures.

yeah i think he said the guy couldn't afford to keep servicing them anymore because the parts are just too expensive.

My dads building has VERY old lights in the basement I will go down and take photos for you all.
They are not T17 they are t12
streetlight98   [Apr 20, 2014 at 05:36 PM]
Oh wow do you know old they are? Old fluorescents are the best! They're built like tanks and look a lot cooler than newer lights. Make sure you keep the original ballasts inside! Very Happy If your dad wants LED lights in the basement make sure you put up new fixtures and save the old ones. Sadly, old fluorescents are slowly disappearing so all the better if you can keep those ones in the basement alive and well. Smile

Are they preheat with starters, rapid start, HO, or slimline?

They will stay in the basement. I would have to go down and see them to know they have not been on in over 20 years. I will wire them in and get them going. I think one is over 70 years old.

Please take pictures though! Very Happy Wow 20 years they haven't been used? I can only imagine the vintage fluorescent lamps in those fixtures!
traffic light1   [Apr 20, 2014 at 06:38 PM]
It has been 27 years I just asked
streetlight98   [Apr 20, 2014 at 07:20 PM]
Wow so the newest bulbs down there are from the 80s! No doubt those fixtures have some old bulbs from the 60s and 70s! Are they disconnected from power or just switched off? I'm guessing the basement is vacant? I wonder if they all work? Very Happy
traffic light1   [Apr 20, 2014 at 08:22 PM]
The wire stopped working.
streetlight98   [Apr 20, 2014 at 08:56 PM]
Hmm Interesting. I wonder if maybe it accidentally got disconnected when there was electrical work done? So there's been no light down there for amost 30 years?
traffic light1   [Apr 20, 2014 at 10:53 PM]
I got them all going Very Happy. The lamps were very strange for the first 10min
streetlight98   [Apr 20, 2014 at 11:27 PM]
Ahh nice. What brand are the lamps and are they preheat, rapid start, etc? Can you post pics? Very Happy
