One of my best vintage finds yet!
I found an old photo of either Queen street or Main street in Downtown Brampton in April of 1982. I think its Queen Street IMO. The whole stretch was likely lit by B2255's and Model 25's. Now there are only 2 of these concrete poles with the very short arms unfortunately which have been OVX'd over the years, and one that still sported a B2255 until recently when it was replaced by a longer arm and new pole with an OVX back in January/early February.

Great find! I always enjoy seeing how much brampton streetscapes change in a matter of a few years.
This is for sure Main Street, the standard trust company depicted is now The Pita Pit. I saw a shot somewhere that included traffic signals as well, span braced arms IIRC.

Any guess to why they left the odd random high concrete poles in place?

Yeah I also love seeing the streetscapes! I confirmed it is main street I checked in streetview
Im trying to find that photo again, I have seen it before, it was I believe the Northwest corner of Queen and Main there were CGE traffic signals on double guy arms. Il keep looking for it though. Smile

I really don't know why tbh. Why replace perfect poles and fixtures for little post tops Sad
I wish I could see the streetscapes from 2000 and prior to that. I never find much

Very nice! I wish there were more pre 2000 pics showing how the suburbs looked. I have one showing Hwy 48 in Markham but that's all I found. I wonder if the B2255 is HPS or mercury since mine from 1980 was a former Brampton light and was 250w HPS.

You should post them one day Razz

The B2255 in this pic was probably a merc. The one that was just removed was HPS.

Wow so much reconstruction goes on in your area. Here we have poles from the 1950s and 60s all over the place! Here's some NGrid-owned poles from the 50s that originally held 400W MV Form 109s with pole-top ballasts, as you can see from the second pole. The current lights are 250W HPS M-250R2s, 120V. They replaced gray M-400s, which went up in the late 60s according to Dave D. This pole was probably a knock-down replacement at some point. It's a weird tapered elliptical/double-guy combo lol. (...) There's also a few double guys clustered together and there are a bunch of 8ft truss poles that are replacements for knockdowns from the 60s-present. These all have individual PCs and are owned and maintained by NGrid (in other words, they're poorly maintained, though NGrid did a group relamp back around (...) here are some original late 50s davit poles that original held 400W Mv OV-25 flatbottoms with red photocells. The poles had all sorts of lights until RIDOT replaced them all with 250W HPS M-250R2s in the early 90s. These are poorly maintained too. Many of the 1957 poles have been replaced due to upgrades over the years but this string is here to stay for a while. Note how the poles are such a dark color from years of use. They were originally brushed aluminum like all our metal poles here.
