Yeah the rubber gasket is better at keeping crap out of the optical assembly.

Yeah and behind the lamp socket there is a hole in the reflector with a round black thing glued over the hole. I guess that's a "charcoal filter" that I noticed some lights have an option for.

Hmm yeah my 1981 HPS M-250R1 has one of those things too.

Yeah I guess it's supposed to help vent heat out from the reflector and also helps keep the reflector clean.
