Don't the lamps have to be bad for that happen though? I dont think it would do it to good lamps.
I never have gotten why they made residential only ballasts. They're just crappy cheaper ballasts, but how much more money can a "real" HPF ballast cost to make? These things ruin the reputation of fluorescent lighting and are just poor excuses for ballasts as it is. If people don't need 80 watts of light they can either use one F40T12, or an F20T12 or something. No need for these junky things.
One of the lamps I used was a spent Norelco F40CW; ironically the first lamp I ever saw the Norelco name on as a child!
Me either...I like full power HPF rapid start better any day! If this ballast dies it will be replaced by a NOS HPF rapid start or an electronic RS T12 ballast or IS T8 ballast.
I did IIRC...it kinda flickered dimly like it was on a HPF ballast though. The MagneTek rectifies for sure but I need to test it for the same 72 hours...it only got about 18 before I left out of town again...
LOl my parent's get mad when I have lights on during the day so the most my lights are used a day would be a couple hours. (except of course for when the garage lights were accidentally left on over night and the '50s preheater died.)
