Chicago M-250R1 in my Room
|
Decided to take down the OVC and put up my Chicago M-250R1 with the embossed "C" on the door. This guy is NOS but the dumb@$$ seller broke one of the hinges (the hinges were not broken in the listing pictures). The door stays shut fine with one hinge. The only time the missing hinge is an issue is when the door is being opened (it'll drop free out of the hinge cradle) so you need one hand to hold the back of the door against the top housing.
The tape is just a precautionary measure, it isn't essential to keep the door up. The tape also allows the door to be opened with one hand, without worrying about the back end dropping out. On this fixture, the ballast is mounted to the door, so unfortunately that adds to the weight on the door.

BTW, Joe told me to ask you for more infor garding a rare 70/90W HPS lamp that GE made back in the 80s. He showed me onw but has has no idea what it would have been used for. He said if anyone knew, you would be the person to ask. This fixture's nameplate says under ANSI code that it takes S54 lamps but under LAMP WATTS it says 70/90. And the wiring of this is weird. To change wattages, you need to change a connection on the ballast core and on the igniter, which is odd because 30-150W lamps all should use the same igniter (except for 100V 150W lamps).
An oddball fixture, that's for sure. And certainly a welcomed addition to my collection, since I love HPS lights from the 70s to the mid-90s.
