CGE Signal - LED Retrofit
|
Here's a shot of the Philips clear LED lamps I'm currently using in the red and green sections of my CGE signal. The amber section still uses a incandescent since it's on for a short time compared to the other two lights. I chose the clear "incandescent sparkle" LEDs since incandescent signal lenses look dull if used with a frosted LED bulb. This clear LED bulb seems to do the trick though. The colour is similar to what it would look like if used with a conventional incandescent. Real signal bulbs have a yellowish tinge to them so the greens don't look as blue if real signal bulbs are used.

I wonder how green would look with a "daylight" LED? Or red/green/yellow ones? (or even colored CFLs). Granted, the latter might not do well if it's cycling through on a controller...
I actually have a daylight LED at home so I might give that a try too. I suppose the green will look blue, amber will look more or less the same and red might look pinkish or purplish.
Yeah even though I have relays switching the lights, the frequently on/offs and the sealed environment will make short life of any CFL.
