Ugh I see they didn't trim the extra wires either. I always snip the excess wire when I install a ballast in a light. Makes it look more professional and neater.
I normally leave them but wire tie them in a neatly way, although I have to admit I don't mind it like this. Gives it an industrial look. I just got back from the supply house and they only carry standard 175 watt MH lamps and ballasts, I guess 175 is still a standard lamp?
Why not leave this as 400W PSMH? I think it looks great the way it is. 175W is too low for a medium fixture IMO. Kinda bothers me that they even offer 175W for the M-400/M-400A and the 125/325 lol. MH ballasts are still made in 175, 250, 400, and 1000W but new MH fixture are illegal (except for 1000W). Everything else is PSMH. They banned the fixtures but not ballasts to allow existing MHs to be maintained but I think in a few years they're planning on banning the ballasts and possibly the lamps too but I've found no concrete evidence of this).
175W comes in MH and PSMH, but 175W PSMH is very uncommon and hardly used. 150W PSMH is much more commonly used.
I'm only going to change the ballast to 175 watt MH if I decide to install it and I'll keep the 40 label on it. 400 watt is a little extreme for my application. but I won't do anything till I make a final decision. I'v been trying to get the pole and light up for the past two weeks but my coworker who's going to help has been busy. Shoot I might just put something up that hasn't even been mentioned. Lol.
Yeah 400W PSMH would be too bright. I'd personally keep this 400W and decide between the 125 and Evolve. It helps to narrow things down for you. Something that hasn't been mentioned yet? You mean like the Model 13? I bet your M-250R1 would look nice on the tapered elliptical with the Formed Plastics lens on it and an 80s Fisher Pierce PC.
No not the 13 not even on a tapered elliptical arm. Pretty basic fixture but rather nice. Might not be a cobrahead and might be just right and it may just have a 24" bracket and be an AEL fixture with nema label, You know me another fixture to decide on. Lol. I know I should leave this one alone but it just looks so good and would look even better on a nice new pole.
I love the 13 it's one of my favorites I just don't wan't to put it up. Nema on the tapered elliptical?? I thought of that but na'. I am seriously putting up a nema though, A nice one.
Not settling just considering. No it would be brand new, The Pemco admiral's fixture will be on display in the building along with other vintage friends. Of course I might just surprise you and you'r enthusiastic voice of Evolve, Evolve, Evolve. Because honestly if I needed the a company bucket truck to change lights I'm sure they would let me. But a nice high quality nema would look nice and be a simple solution to a good security light, And I could service it without having to ask for a truck.
Yeah but NEMAs are BORING! If you do use the NEMA head I think it would look better on the 4ft arm though. There's a small utility in North Attelborough, MA that uses NEMAs on 4ft arms and they look pretty good! They're 50W HPS Thomas & Betts NEMAs since the NEMA tags match the ones on the 90s Thomas & Betts 113s.
I don't think a nice NEMA is boring there's allot to look at you can see the lamp, ballast and wiring and I like them on both the 24" welded arms as well as the 4 footers. This one even has the NEMA label.
