Westinghouse H38 100w Mercury Vapor Ballast
Unknown age. I got this ballast from Jace when I traded my 70w HPS ballast with him. How I wire this thing? It has three spade connectors on it. I unbent the bolt tabs which were bent flush to the sides.

Its not a Westy. The middle is hot, the far left is the middle of the lamp contact and the far right goes to neutral. The Neutral also connects to the shell of the lamp. Hope this helps FGS

Thanks buddy. Who made this ballast?
GullWhiz   [Jan 03, 2010 at 05:27 AM]
I THINK ITT...my guess is this one was found in a Town and County ITT posttop from the 70s

How do you know, what side belong to Neutral and what to Lamp? Or the ballast design is symmetrical, so it does not matter?
GullWhiz   [Jan 03, 2010 at 06:53 PM]
#1 this came from me. #2 most cases, not all but very often if the outside connector is on the same coil as the hot...its neutral....thats one hint.....also both winding is connected to the hot....but going to lamp starts with inside and winding OUT while the one going to Neutral starts outside GOING IN....now....some GE ballasts has all 3 contacts in the middle.....but winding is same....so its same.....the above is an HX type ballast....hope that helps answer your question

That is vary different how the shell does not go all the way arround the coil. Is there a reason for that?

Mebbe save weight and make it smaller to fit on a post top fixture Jace mentioned.

The ballast in my American Electric 100watt MV yard light looks gist like this one. (I did not have my American Electric 100watt MV yard light at the time of my last comment on this photo.)

ITT and American Electric are the same Wink
@Parrot, I hear you have a GE M-400 fixture right? If you look at the ballast...if it has 4 coils...its similar design as above but with 4 coils...
