Wrap Light With Cover Off
You can see the sockets are staggered in height. Originally this was a single lamp unit, using the taller sockets you see here. I was going to buy a single lamp ballast but they're over 20 bucks at Lowe's and WalMart so I decided to make it a three lamper. I was going to use all short sockets but those don't work in the middle because the lamps don't clear the 90-degree turn clips (in fact, the outer lamps brush against the reflector when they're installed) so I kept the original sockets for the center lamp and used the short sockets on the outside. I actually like the look of this. It ALMOST resembles a halfpiper in this configuration. Lamps are new Philips Alto II high-efficiency 830 lamps BTW, also from the ReStore like this fixture.

Sorta looks like a mini fluorescent highbay. Razz

Most of my single lamp T8 fixtures actually use 2 lamp IS T8 ballasts wired for single lamp operation. (Wire red and one blue to the lamp, cap the other blue with a wirenut) Even the ones that don't list single lamp operation on the label seem to work fine.

Yeah I only have three and four lamps ballasts lol.

That's a nice fitting you made. Looks like there's enough space even for 5 lamps! Smile

Thanks! It was a manufactured light, I just added the two outer lamps. Maybe you could squeeze four in but five would be tight. The fixture is very slim. You can only fit an electronic ballast inside (but a preheat choke would fit), though I want to keep this T8IS.
