This was intended to be a temporary installation because it's only around 4-1/2ft off the ground, but I've left the set-up in place because I simply lack room to store all my cobraheads inside!
Nice! I like the look of this OVX. As much as I hate the OVX, the original lens and white coating on them looks pretty nice and tolerable to me. What wattage is this?
The paint on cobraheads is gray, not white. Yeah the old lens looks much nicer on the OVX IMO but I like both style glasses on the OVZ.
This is 400W HPS with a 120/480V ballast (dual tap; they didn't bother with the 208, 240, or 277V taps lol). This is from 1995, so it has a foil NEMA tag instead of a plain yellow one, making it further interesting.
Heh, I still haven't decided if the OVX looks better in grey or bare like most of them here. I always found the ballast taps on yours to be interesting too. Never really seen a ballast with a 120v and a 480v tap.
Yeah I've never heard of such a ballast either. And it's a big sun-of-a-gun too! For a small cobrahead this thing weighs a lot! Without the glass, the door is literally less than a pound. That's how thin and chintzy it is. The top housing is thicker, but not by much. Just enough so it can hold its shape lol.

To withstand bird pecks? They seem to choose hard surfaces at safe places to prepare their food.
The fixture doesn't look so bad after all. I like the modern lens shape.
