I've heard that in the coming years they will be making LED streetlights that contain cameras and possibly microphones (the latter only used to detect loud noises such as gunshots, not to eavesdrop on conversations, though who's stopping them...) incorporated right into the housing! The Big Brother State is approaching folks.
If they really do start making them to eavesdrop, it will give me yet another reason to hate them. Guess it might be time to build an EMP cannon.
In all seriousness, in the "bad" parts around here there are bullet detectors everywhere. They are just small gray boxes with huge antennas sticking out of the top and bottom on every other pole. They were installed around 2008 and from what I have heard they have helped control the crime somewhat. I still am curious as to whether they are also being used as eavesdropping devices. All I know is, if I see cameras and other spying devices popping up in my neighborhood, I am moving to someplace else with less "big-brotherliness".
Yeah I'd imagine the "Big Brother" streetlights would only be used in urban areas, which I have no desire to live in anyway. The city is full of bad air, high rise homes with no yard, no parking anywhere, lots of traffic, gangs drugs and other crime, and an overall run-down and dumpy atmosphere. I'd rather live on a nice rural lot surrounded by trees with clean air free from all the troubles of the city. Though I'd still want to be less than 20 minutes to "civilization" (i.e. stores) and within 10 minutes of the freeway. I don't want neighbors lol.
Having a tree-lined lot would also help a lot with light trespass. The trees would scatter spill light and if there's no one nearby it wouldn't matter anyway. Of course, I wouldn't be running all the lights I plan to have installed dusk-to-dawn anyway, but if I were to, I wouldn't want light trespass to be an issue. I don't want to be "that guy" who keeps everyone up at night with bright lights blasting into people's windows lol.
My plan is to have a dozen or so wood poles around the perimeter of my yard, each with at least one 100 or 175W MV light. I'd also have a few 400W MV lights scattered around for that extra illumination when needed. I'd like to have either a 1000W MV cobrahead or a 1000W MV flood light too. Either a GE M-1000 or an older GE Powerflood. Would probably be hard to locate either of those at this point though.
That's the exact same kind of property I want. I kind of want to live in the city in an apartment, because I would probably get pretty lonely living like that, but if I were to have an apartment I wouldn't be able to put up lights outside or anything like that.
