Philips Spotline reflector lamp, early generation
Weird design, it has a fat neck with a groove between neck and reflector portions. Later ones have a thinner neck that did away with the groove. This is NOS from 1990, it was thrown away in a trash can and I rescued it!

VERY European looking!

I buy the newer versions, made in Poland. Nice lamps that have a reasonable lifetime.

We don't get them in the USA anymore.

Nice rescue! Cool

I wonder why we don't use them in the USA...any particular reasons?

Philips offered them until the end of 2007. For 2008 the screwy wattage requirements for reflector lamps took effect which required R-20s to be 45w or less. Rather than making a 45w Spotline, it was dropped from the line and Philips just sources in ordinary R-20s from China.

They don't even carry 100 watt incandescents in stores anymore either, it's ridiculous. Confused
GullWhiz   [Jun 06, 2010 at 05:52 PM]
I still see 100 watt incandescent....being sold...
RCM   [Jun 06, 2010 at 06:52 PM]
So do I, it's not really that hard to find them! Smile

Stores here in California carry the 95w bulbs replacing the 100w. Some still have the 100w.

California.... Rolling Eyes

Remember I got a bunch of half pipers a month ago? One of the reasons, I was told, that they came down because California regulations prohibits keeping T-12s and magnetic ballasts in use when buildings are remodeled. There are still many T-12s in locally owned businesses but are slowly being changed to T-8. In Florida, all stores except chains have T-12s.

They're like a nanny state over there, including Arizona and New Mexico. Rolling Eyes

Why California didn't ban mercury lamps is beyond me. Still, basically all of CA is HPS as it has been for the past 30 years. Old incandescent and mercury lights are mostly found in cities that have their own utilities or their own street lighting systems. Also, about a third of the porch lights lit up at night have CFLs.
