EYE Lighting 50W Clear MV Lamp
I got this in the mail yesterday from Joe Maurath Jr. NOS in the original box! The box is simply ink-stamped "H50/E17".

Look at the gorgeous blue base insulator! I haven't lit it up yet but I certainly will (probably tomorrow). Thanks Joe!

Nice! I should buy one of these before they stop making them.

Thanks! Yeah clear low wattage MVs are cool. Unfortunately they're in low demand so they're expensive and who knows how much longer they'll be made. Joe Maurath Jr actually has a couple of 50W MV flood lights with these clear lamps that light up the front of his house at night. Haven't seen them lit at night but I bet they're cool!

I didn't even know Joe was into lighting anymore. I would love to see those mercury vapor floodlights. Were they originally 50w or were they homemade?

I'm almost positive Joe had customized them (he had told me but it's too late right now for me to remember; gotta go to bed lol). They have twist-lock PC sockets on them (with GE shorting caps) and are a decent size. They're actually visible in streetview but I don't want to link it here to protect his privacy, since it would show his address. If you want I'll ask him if he'd mind grabbing a nighttime shot of the flood lights and I'd upload it here. I'd love to see it too! They're installed on the ground in his front yard and shine toward the front of the house for accent/security lighting. His porch light is a custom-rigged radial wave street light! Very Happy There are numerous functional displays in his yard too.

Here's a website I made for collectors around the world to see his collection. I never updated it for the 2016 visit though. I took some pics of really cool stuff but I never got around to posting most of it. Been too busy to devote the time to the site lately. I'll get around to it though.

Very interesting, I have a 50w MV ballast now so I'm considering switching my gumball over to 50w MV, if I can get one of these bulbs, 50w clear MV would sound even better. Too bad they're quite expensive though.

The gumball would look awesome in MV! Can you light a 50W MV on a 39W CMH ballast? I thought the general consensus on LG was that it was doable.

Yep, a 35/39w MH ballast works fine for 50w mercury vapor lamps. I have a ballast box for one (landscape lighting) and it runs 50w mercs great.
joe_347V   [Mar 17, 2017 at 09:40 PM]
You can but my 39w CMH ballasts are all electronic so I have to replace the ballast since you need to disable the ignitor; not that big of a problem in my setup since it's remote ballasted and I can quickly swap the remote ballast box.

They make magnetic 35/39w ballasts too. They have them on 1000bulbs.

I always found them to be quite rare and fairly expensive compared to the electronic ones due to lack of demand. I would get one but with shipping and tax, I'd probably be expecting to spend like $100 on a ballast.
