Ripley has recently re-designed their shorting and open caps. These covers look different than the old style and the covers snap on instead of using three rivets like their old shorting and open caps used. I like this new design better.
Hmm interesting. I liked the super low profile of the older design. Made it look like the light had no PC socket! Aside from that I prefer the photocell-sized shorting and open caps.
The only manufacturer I know of who has a shorting cap that uses the same cover as their photocontrols is Sun-Tech, model FPN1038-1. They have a low profile one as well, model S1039. DTL, Ripley, ALR, Precision all have low profile shorting caps.
Yep Fisher Pierce's shorting caps have always been full-profile (or at least having the option). I have one from 1977 that's a dark brown (almost black but not quite; far darker than the brown DTLs used here though). I love Fisher Pierce's 90s open caps that were orange with the black window. They look totally awesome!
