T10 Preheaters While F40T10 fixtures in Japan were fairly common, it seemed like most were either electronically ballasted or rapid start. Anyway I was pleased to see this board game shop had a preheat version in use. Preheat is still somewhat common in Japan, finding a preheater there is like finding a T12 RS fixture back here. Interestingly I noticed 200v was used for some 4' fixtures there, probably so to allow for cheaper choke style ballasts. Too bad 277v and 347v lighting didn't catch on until RS became standard here or we'd probably still see more preheaters in use. Keywords: Indoor_Fixtures

Awesome! Yeah I was thinking that preheat would be way simpler than RS at 240V or 277V.

Thanks, another thing I liked about the strips there was the vintage looking V shaped housings instead of the rectangular ones we have. I guess to most people, the flickering startup of preheat was annoying so RS won out in the end. Still I think preheat was more practical for places like large office buildings where the lights were on for the entire day and was usually fed off a 277v circuit. Plus you save energy from not having to heat the cathodes all the time.

Yeah especially nowadays where the other side of the world has electronic starters for preheaters. It would eliminate frequent starter changes and the randomness of start-up. I never see those here though, just the glowbottle starters. I guess there's so few preheaters out there that more expensive electronic ones just don't make sense.

the V-channels do look cool but at the same time look like louver-less louvered fixtures lol.

Yeah I guess with the few preheaters left here especially 4' ones it dosen't make that much sense to import them here. I want to get my hands on a pair of FS-2 and FS-4 equivalent electronic starters though.

The V-channels remind me of half pipers except two lamp lol but I guess a louver less louvered fixture also works. I didn't see any louvered fixtures in Japan but I did see a few troffers that had the same type of louver assembly as our louvered fixtures, down to the V channel in the center.

Wow, neat! Would "our" F40T12 lamps work on these, and would these lamps work on "our" rapid start ballasts?

They do! I have a pair of Japanese spec F40T10s, they work quite nicely on our rapid start ballasts. Haven't tried preheat but it should work fine.
