The Hinge
|
I bought a really beefy hinge. I had to chop off the bottom of it though for the thru-bolt lol. You can see the wimpy 4X4 mail box post spike sticking out the ground a bit I wish they sold them in 6X6. I could have just bought a 12ft 6X6 and cut it in two pieces and bury the shorter piece in the ground 2 or 3 feet but I was lazy and decided to just buy a mailbox spike and pound it in with a sledgehammer.
Came out really nice but it's just a little too rickety for my liking. I'll see how it holds up but I'll probably have to supplement this some how so it's sturdier. But I don't want to bolt too much onto it since it all has to come off in order to lower the pole. I have that piece of pipe to help (though it doesn't really do much lol) which is lagged to the pole with two bolts, which both have to be removed in order to allow the pole to hinge. Not a big deal, but not the way I intended it. I intended for just the one 10" 5/8" diameter bolt to be removed to allow the pole to hinge.

The hing was $7.98 from Home Depot. It's a gate hinge.
