Solar panel emulator
|
Easier than putting the panel outside the window for the birds to mess on, plus I can measure current and voltage, as well as test the charge controller. The 12V 20W MR16 lamps are there for current limiting, one per controller. Mains transformer delivers 12V, stepped up a little by the big hunk of copper and iron under the multimeter (using 40V input and 50V output as autotransformer, mains side is 67VAC). Supplies 16V at around 1A to each battery, should be fully charged in around another 2 days of daytime emulation. Full charge will be announced by a very bright light as the controller shorts the panel to prevent overcharge. The thing they are all draped on is a water cooler that is awaiting a new compressor ( waiting for Carrier to have a stock clearance of some old stock) as the old one had a leak.
