New 6X6X4 NEMA Type 1 Pull Box I had a standard 4-square steel box here as a primary junction box which eventually crammed seven splices. Included, since I am using a common neutral and common ground, were a neutral splice with four wires and a ground with five wires, including a pigtail to the box. So I decided to make some room, and use bus bars for the neutral (with rubber underneath for isolation) and ground leads. The two tagged hot leads go to eventual expansion from the switch panel, so I won't have to open the panel again when I run additional fixtures. Keywords: Gear

Would it be up to code to use a pull box as a ballast enclosure in a permanent installation?

Yeah you can do that. I've seen it done firsthand in the field. I would use a metal box like this one above, just bigger. The bigger the better for heat dissipation. The ones I saw were mounted to a piece of shallow strut as well, to provide an air gap for air to flow by the back of the box to remove heat.

That is exactly the type of projects these NEMA steel boxes were designed for. They're multipurpose boxes for junctions, fuses, Ballasts, etc. I'm using mine pictured for a main junction box.

I've used these pull boxes for ballast boxes many times but it's nice to see one used for what it was originally designed for. NiMo, your wiring is beautifully done. I like seeing conduit, heavy duty boxes and armored cable or flex conduit rather than messy, unprotected NM cable stapled all over but it's definitely more expensive to do it this way.
