Wow! (Most beautiful coloured fluorescent EVAR!)
Here's my Sylvania F54T17/SDB/VHO being tested on a 2XF40T12 RS NPF ballast. It doesn't give the proper electrical characteristics, but it gives me a good idea of the colour!

The pic does not do it justice, sadly. In person the light is less purple, it's actually a deep blue colour with a blacklight effect! Despite being severely underpowered, it's BRIGHT! I added my old yellow toothbrush that glows under that lamp!

what Causes the toothbrush to Glow? Shocked
TiCoune66   [Aug 06, 2010 at 09:17 PM]
Ultraviolets most likely. Better be careful when I'll run it at full power!

Blue light can also cause fluorescence in fluorescent objects.
This lamp can be used as a high power actinic lamp or for high power jaundice lamp.

Thanks for the pic Vince Cool, it looks like from your description above and the pic this lamp looks like a /BL blacklight but in a darker shade of blue with some purple when lit.

I believe you when you say this is beautiful - I like all shades of blue/actinic & aquarium lamps. Great find!

Would a HO ballast work any better for testing?
TiCoune66   [Dec 20, 2014 at 03:22 AM]
It would drive the lamp closer to its full power, that's for sure!
