Norelco LPS to light this bridge in Long Beach, CA, now HPS. I think this was taken at the crown/top of the bridge. The girl's name is Mary, last I heard living in Glendale, AZ, prolly having to look at LED streetlights now. Photo has developed date 6-80
Are you sure LEDs are being used in Arizona....I was there in 2006 and they were all HPS...(with a very few mercs of course) ...and I heard dark sky HATES LEDs as far as I know...
In the original "Gone in 60 Seconds" the stolen Mustang passes over this bridge in 1974, it was lit with what appears to be M-1000s. There are a lot of classic lights in the LA, Long Beach, Redondo Beach are chase scenes on the You Tube clips including fluorescent street lights on the Vincent-Thomas bridge & toll plaza.
They were M400s. I saw them in a scene on the classic 70s show CHiPs (in a '77 espiode). Also seen the fluorescent lights on the same show. CHiPs, Emergency!, and Starsky and Hutch are among the best shows to find old lights in LA back in the 70s when HPS was almost non existent.
Too bad the bridge is being demolished. Here in RI they've been repalcing bridges because their concrete pillars are no longer strong enough to endure the weight of the bridge and they've had steel struts holding them up for the past 10 years or so. The Pawtucket River Bridge which carries I-95 over the Blackstone River was the worst bridge in New Englad (and possibly the north east) until it was replaced a couple years ago. They're currently working on the GAR Hwy 9Grand Army of the Republic aka US Route 6) since that bridge has been held up by steel struts for over a decade now. It must not be as bad as the Pawtucket River Bridge was since there's no weight limit for trucks on it but it's pretty scary looking underneath.
It's easy for the DOT to make a bridge look spiffy and well-maintained but you take a look underneath and you wonder how the bridge doesn't collapse under its own weight, neverming 18-wheelers barraling over it 24/7.
