You get what you ask for!
Yep another CFL that melted! I spotted this in the bathroom of a Chipotles restaurant. On a side note, a small number of said restaurants now have LEDs. They aren't that bright and they do have dimming problems despite being high power ones with heat sinks.

Looks like a TCP right? CFLs aren't really meant for enclosed fixtures, they cook in no time...

Yep CFL Lamps fail in Enclosed Fitting's they are a nightmare as people in the UK are Complining about beinf forced to CFL Lamps and when they are used in Well Glasses Bulkheads and Downlights etc after a few hours pop goes the electronics in the ballast. I too have destroyed CFL Lamps when using them in my Airport Light Collection, I now use GLS lookalike Halogen Light Bulbs

All the Best

This problem is especially in helical CFLs. In tubular CFLs the ballast less heats and derefore more suitable for enclosed fitting.

no more CFL's for me...i use Circlines and Linears with Line Frequency ballasts! Very Happy

I stopped using CFL's and switched all my lights back to incandescent.

Here in the UK we are stuck with CFL's or Halogen Retroft Lamps we can only get Incndescents upto 60 watts unless you find the illeagal 75 watts and above.

Sofar I am lucy to get a load of 100w and 150w Ex NATO lamps which are used in my home for now.

All the Best

Colin
