Made your link work...and dude, thats a different fixture in the catalog..look carefully the one you are talking about is a split door that was available 1966-1985......the ones above was available in 1959-1970 and never was offered in HPS.....two different fixtures.....the one you saw is a same model but newer...which is well known as "Split door" to the lighting community...the one above has a button latch (which you press button) the one on the catalog has a pull bar latch...they look like powerdoors, but without a screw on the door is one of the differences between powerdoors and the split door version. sorry you lost your bet bud....but no hard feelings, everyone learns.....back in 2005, I knew nothing!
@Niall cool to see that's there's still MV left here in Ontario, I"d always hoped that some of the smaller towns still have their original MV lights still in use
Gullwhiz and Gailgrove, you are both wrong in a way lol! The original M400 was replaced by the split door M400 in 1970. In the 60s only the M400A was offered with a HPS option. The M400A was introduced in 1965, the split door M400 in 1970. You can see the M400 splitdoor looks like the M400A in the '77 GE catalog. That means the old M400s in the pic obviously were retrofitted, not originally HPS.
Well Dave, I was correct that the original M-400 never had HPS anyway...
And Form109...actually there were I think 2 or 3 changes for the M-1000.....the step door wasn't removed, it was actually added...which is a newer version....so it actually first ones were Silver GE M-1000 with fin, then next version was the ones that was grey without the fin but no step door.....and finally the 70s version had the step door with vents on the door
They did not "modify" with powerdoor, they more of ADDED streetlights with powerdoor, Westinghouse did the same thing by adding Tudors to the list.....the OV-25 Tudor and OV-15 Tudor came out in 1970 while OV-15 and OV-25 still was available (but they did get modified a few times too with slight design changes) There was never a OV-50 Tudor either....
There is a few HPS M-400s at a weigh station at the border of colorado and new mexico on I-25. I was surprised to see those M-400s retrofitted to HPS. and they were original M-400s.
I will try one day to take pictures of every (or almost) every models and make a timeline picture so there's less confusions on some models and stuff.....GE names all the models GE M-400 for all of them...but each one are "newer models" so we just add "R1, R2, A2" to avoid confusions basically
Yeah.....the original one like the above....never ever had HPS....also the smaller HPS lamps wasn't invented until later so lower wattage HPS wasn't available until the 1970s so that is why they didn't have the 150 watt available in the 60s catalog....the 35 watt and 50 watt HPS lamp wasn't even invented until the early 80s!
Here's the timeline: 400w HPS '65, 250w HPS '69, 150w HPS '74, 70w and 100w HPS '75, 310w HPS '76 (intially only for Crimefighters), 200w HPS '78, 50w HPS '79, and 35w HPS '81.
Yes its true the original M400 from the 60s was never offered in HPS, one reason from what I have heard is that the mount patterns for HPS ballasts didn't line up in the M400.
I'm not sure if Toronto is moving to LED as I've only seen a few test installs. Come to think of it that AEL 125 might have been a GE M-400A3 since Toronto uses bare AEL fixtures.
I Wonder Why the M-1000 Stayed pretty much the same for its production run asides from Step Door and Fins being Removed.
while the 400 and 250 Sizes got modified with power door and such?
i know it sounds confusing...hopefully someone knows what im rambling about.

if everyone thinks that's a good idea.
