I guess they haven't heard of shorting caps.

Or maybe they don't carry shorting caps....plus didn't want to remove the original PC or anything...but do I see a remote ballast?

That looks like a relay next to the PC bracket!
gailgrove   [Apr 10, 2011 at 01:51 PM]
Yep thats a relay not a remote ballast.

Nice...I do know some cylinder shaped relays but only the PC is directly on top of the relay itself instead of separate...never actually held one up close though

Yeah a lot of the relays here have the PC on top too, and I thought some of them were remote ballasts too.

We also have the giant relay cabinets for freeway lights and a fuse box sized control box for some smaller installs too.

The town of South Hadley, MA which is near me uses nothing but Durastars. YUCK!, plus why are the taping the photocell since they are using a remote cell anyway?
gailgrove   [Aug 06, 2011 at 12:16 AM]
The remote PC is controlling the relay can beside it, it likely does several light. I still think they should of just used a shorting cap.

Or they could just leave the PC as it is with no tape. That wouldn't do any harm. I see some lights here that are controlled by relays that have regular unmasked PCs installed becuase a shorting cap wasn't on a hand.

Sun-Tech makes their shorting caps with the same cap as their photocontrols. So you wouldn't know if it was a shorting cap or a photocontrol unless you could actually see components of a photocontrol behind the window.
