Redundant Array of Independant Luminaires A couple of lumes on Highway 7 have adopted the Redundant Array of Independent Luminaires system (R.A.I.L.) The advantages of this system is the redundancy offered by utilising an array of indpendantly ballasted lumes so that if one fails the RAIL controller will automatically switch to the other lume. The lumes are connected to a special RAIL controller using the SATA (Streetlight Assessment and Testing Array) interface. Pole crew is not going to do anything other than replace the pole, and transfer everything across.

Actually the pole crew replaced a couple of fixtures down the road when changing the poles but they left these up until later, don't know why they needed to replace fixtures and arms though.

they did this in NH in some places but for different reasons. One would be mounted above the other. For instance, two 150w HPS M-250A2s both on 10ft truss arms. Both would be powered at the same time, but the light from the one on top would shut the bottom one off. Then when the top one's lamp failed, the bottom one would work. Neat eh? It must have been before standby lamps? It must be annoying when the top one cycles because the bottom one would strike when the top one goes out.

And this weird setup is still up the last time I checked and both turn on at night...talk about overlighting and wasting electricity. Rolling Eyes

This bus lane project is going to mean the end of a lot of nice B2255, AE 25, OV 25 FCO lights. I just hope they don't put flattened sticks up when they're done since the rendering depicts lumes that look vaguely like them. Confused
