MH handy sheet
Just to help know the differences between MHs...

I hope it helps you understand differences between Ceramic and Quartz MH and Pulse start and Probe start...

The Probe Start has a Starting Resistor inside the lamp while Pulse Start doesn't.
The Quartz arc tube is made out of Quartz just like MV lamps has.....the Cermaic arc tube looks just like what a HPS arc tube has, except in different shape and has a different fill from the HPS, but same or similar as a Quartz MH lamp has.

There are many different base types of MHs!

Those two at the centre looks like cram bulb Shocked Razz

I hope both are rated for enclosed fixture.

Still, Shocked I would shudder if I were standing under when these MH would (in British accent) exploude!

The pulse start MH lamps are actually less likely to explode than the probe starts from what I was told!
A_lights   [Apr 27, 2011 at 01:55 AM]
That's not true Laughing I see leaked and exploded ones all the time! Probe starts just dont start most of the time at EOL because they don't have a kick
(sorry this is messy, I'm posting on my iPod touch)
to start them. With pulse start almost every shrouded lamp has a blown

I prefer CMH lamps they seem very safe even if unshrouded
shroud at EOL Shocked the ignitor can start the lamp even pat the point it should be operated, most ignaitors generate 5Kv! That means any lamp still intact will strike up usually. 50W lamps don't explode much, just cycle heavily at EOL. Higher wattage pulse start is more likely to explode I belive

Actually Aaron, I have a bunch of leaked pulse start lamps, none of them blew.....just leaked...and I actually have some pulse start lamp with blacked arc tube that simply WONT start..Also see the Cermaic lamp the the 7th one from the left.....that one won't start on any ignitors at all
The ones I get that's blown was always the ones that were probe start!

The one 3rd from the right - is that a Sylvania Powerball? Where did you get such an awesome lamp?
