FILE 24/503
Useless Highmast
Here is a highmast that was installed in a farm field, it has to light the entire 10 lanes to the left of it! Which doesn't work very well.

Sometimes I don't know why they do this, the 403 also has the highmasts on one side that shine down and it's really dim on the other side at night

yeah this is a bad installation.
maybe they should replace the highmasts with 1 KW Floods and Aim them to those 10 Lanes.

We don't use highmasts here. A good solution would be to mount the poles in the median of the highway.

Some of the
highmasts in Toronto
have a couple of 1kw floods to illuminate the far side too.
As for provincial (MTO) roads, I've seen them use floods before on
Hwy. 417
in Ottawa but they didn't really use floodlights again.

Yeah, floods would of done a much better job, I don't understand why they did this, they easily could of put the poles in the middle of the road too. These lights are on the 401 but are owned by the 407.
