Burned base down, probably in a desk lamp. The lamp probably was knocked over whilst lit.

You got the correct assumption that it was burning base down.

Nope, it didn't get knocked over. It was burning when I left my bedroom. When I made the next visit to my bedroom, it was already burned out.

Anybody? Anything else?

Lightning storm? Power surge? Cracked or damaged socket? The melted leads indicate some sort of nasty arcing.

You got that nasty arcing right, Silverliner14B. Though you can't see at this picture, the fuse below the stem has been blown. We had rain at that night, but I don't know if there has been power surge. But it could be just failed due to age of the filament. Point for SeanB~1 and another point for Silverliner.

Is there anything else that we overlook at the investingation of incandescent EOL? I see one more thing on this.

@Update: I found my network based printer did self test page around in between my visit. It might have a power dip at that time that caused to fail.
