Repaired solar lantern
|
I found this thing sitting over tons of scrap metal at the recycling centre. I expected to get the usual white lantern but I ended up getting one of those older amber ones! The head was slightly bent and the battery compartment was busted. I basically unbent the head and installed two NiCd rechargable cells taped together. This homemade battery pack sits loose inside the fixture. It's been in service in front of my shed for almost a month now and the battery pack still provides lots of juice to the LEDs at morning!
I remember these amber solar lanterns I saw when I was a kid, and this particular one brings me some nostalgia LOL.

Be sure to dry them right after washign though becuase they rust FAST. That's another reason why I bring them inside in the winter becuase the snow will rust the circut board inside it to nothing.
