That must have gotten very hot without the nitrogen fill around it. Those things get over 1000 degrees F. Shocked

well it's a 400 Watt Arctube running off the power of a VHO Ballast....im sure the current supplied is below the current the lamp would see when opperating on its proper ballast,the arctube got hot enough to vaporize enough sodium to turn yellow/orange but it wasn't too bright obviouslly,without the bulb around it all the heat that could further vaporize sodium and warm the lamp up is lost.
