Nice Pic...do you have a New Camera Dave?

Looks good, though it would be better with drop refractors.

Nice. I wish they'd replace fixtures here with PMH once they die.

Nice! I wish my area used PSMH lamps...some of the gumballs in downtown Toronto use PSMH lamps and they look great at night.

I like PSMH unfortunately it's still not popular with all utility companies. In my opinion they would make a better alternative than LED's.

Well during the past 1-2 years Philips and Sylvania have been busy introducting ceramic metal halide lamps intended for use in cobraheads. They are as efficient or slightly more so than HPS, and have a 24,000-30,000 hour rated life. The city of Chicago skipped LEDs and are going to ceramic metal halide.

CMH is more effecient and better quality light than HPS. PMH and CMH lamps will still cycle at the end of their life, but that's a very small drawback when compared to the pros.
gailgrove   [Sep 20, 2011 at 09:06 PM]
I think HPS is fine right now, no need to hurry and replace it, but when the time does come I want to see CMH here.
streetlight98   [Sep 20, 2011 at 09:09 PM]
I don't want to hurry it either. i think as the HPS ballasts fail, a CMH fixture should replace it. Will a CMH/PMH lamp work directly off a HPS fixture? The reason I ask is becuase both have an external ignitor.
joe_347V   [Sep 20, 2011 at 09:10 PM]
Yep me too CMH is pretty nice and plus they can be retrofitted into existing HPS fixtures easily unlike LED and induction.

They did make CMH lamps that works directly off of a 250w or a 400w HPS ballast, Darren has a lamp like this.
gailgrove   [Sep 20, 2011 at 09:13 PM]
Could be retrofitted into existing fixtures but I somehow doubt it would, that's one thing I don't want to see is tens of thousands of fixtures all being replaced and scrapped, and then have all the fixtures the same.
streetlight98   [Sep 20, 2011 at 09:15 PM]
well, what I ment was useing a regular CMH/PMH lamp directly off the HPS equippement without any modifications.
joe_347V   [Sep 20, 2011 at 09:16 PM]
Well some places might retrofit fixtures, I know Markham and Toronto did in the past.

It's sad that PSMH never got a chance for streetlighting. It had so much potential.
