The vibration from the opener might cause the filaments in regular bulbs to break prematurely...rough service lamps and if you can find them traffic signal lamps should work too.
Ahh. I see. We replace the lamps like twice a year in the garage lights. We haven't replaced one of the JB lights in the garage though and we've livede here for a little over 8 years.
Speaking of rough service lamps, they are used in all of the streetcars at the museum I volunteer at for obvious reasons! They are all run on 600 volt DC in series of 5 lamps each, we go through a lot of lamps of all kind there!
Well the ones we have are older ones, though I think we may be getting some of the current TTC ones shortly since they are going to be replaced soon. The oldest car we have is from 1901! And many are from the TTC back when incandescent was used. We even have the two first subway cars ever in use in Toronto and they have incandescent lighting too!
I don't have any but here are a few I found online. These cars where used until 1965, then another type took over until the 1980s when the current type took over, the "new" ones are going to be replaced soon.
Thanks for the pics and info, you wouldn't have any pics of the inside of the old red subway cars?
So far I've seen three different types of subway cars, the really old narrow door ones, the newer wide door ones and the newest ones that allow you to walk to a different train car(only been on that once ).
Oh and would the museum you volunteer at happen to save some of the old mini gumballs that use to light the Yonge Line south of Eglintion. There's only one of them left but most of the old poles are still there but with the S arms sawed off.
Basically there have been five series of subway cars. The G-series which was the first series and was red, we have two of these at our museum, they where the only one to use incandescent lighting. Then came the M-series which I think is the narrow door car you where talking about, all have been scrapped but two which are also at our museum. Then came the H-series some of which are still in service. Next is the T-series which is what most of the cars in service today are. Finally is the "Toronto Rocket" series which are the new cars being put into service now. I can try to get some shots of the cars we have next weekend.
Thanks for the info looks like the narrow door cars I was referring was actually the H5 cars since they're still in use. The Toronto Rocket is pretty nice but I don't like that they took out the centre grab bar that the T1s used...and the fact that the front window is gone.
