Older McDonald's sign with rotator
|
This type of McDonald's sign used to be everywhere, but now they're rare. That good ol' big M is actually neon behind the plastic.
That box underneath the big M? It contains a motor with a special sliding contact. When it was hooked up and working it made the top of the sign rotate continuously. (Of course it doesn't do that now).
And how about that DRIVE-THRU, with its raised letters? Nowadays almost all signs seem to be no more than a plain piece of flat, painted plastic over a lighted box. Boring.
This one's on the corner of Northern Blvd and Little Neck Pkwy in Queens, NY.
