[Gone] The Last 8-8-8 in Toronto Here's what I believe to be the last 8-8-8 traffic signal left in Toronto, there are two other 8-8-8s left but they either have 3M adapters on it or louvers. This one is for pretty busy crosswalk downtown and is still incandescent along with the rest of the signals at this crosswalk. Note the slight browning on the green lens since this signal defaults to green. This signal was removed and replaced with a Fortran traffic poly 12-8-8 and the other signals retrofitted to LED sometime around early February 2012, it was one of the last 8-8-8s in Toronto... Here's what I believe to be the last 8-8-8 traffic signal left in Toronto, there are two other 8-8-8s left but they either have 3M adapters on it or louvers. Nice. We have some 12/12/12 crosswalk signals here with green. Most are 12/12/8. The top being 12" red, middle being 12" yellow, and bottom being 8" flashing yellow. The flashing yellow is default.

Hmm all our signals default to green instead of flash but I've noticed that some places in the US flash their signals that rarely change.

The reason behind flashign the yellow is so it's not confused with a light that's turnign red. The reason why the ped X-ing signals aren't green here (the really old ones are however) is so it's not confused with an intersection.

The lights flashes yellow in the bottom 8" yellow section. a pedestrian pushes the cross button. The 12" steady yellow comes on in the middle section. After 3-5 seconds, the 12" red on top turns on. Then after some time, the flashign yellow bottom section comes on again. Can't find any pics so i'll create one........

I'm not a fan of signals defaulting to flashing yellow, they tend to cause drivers to get confused at first. The BC system of slowly flashing the green is good...although that would cause confusion in Ontario since flashing green means protected left.

Flashing green is unheard of hear. We never flash green lights. Only red and yellow. I don't mind the flashing yellow. I don't know why you say it causes confusion though. It does what it's supposed to- make motorists slow down because of a crosswalk.

Ontario drivers generally aren't used to seeing flashing yellows, we only ever use them when the controller fails. Laughing

Ahh. sometimes when the police direct traffic, the light isn't needed anymore, etc, it will flash. When a signal is first installed, the main road flashes yellow and the side road (and arrows if there are any) will flash red until they program the electronics.

They usually keep the lights off when they're programming the controller here.

I have recently seen the last school 4-way light in my neighbourhood being installed back, it has been repainted and relamped ... with incandescents! Shocked

They get to eager here lol. The signals are connected to power by the electric company and the DOT puts in the equippement and programs the signals. I don't know if the traffic signals here are serviced by the State or City in RI. I think the State, but I could be wrong.....

Update: this has been replaced with a Fortran 12-8-8 wih those new style Dialight LEDs. Rolling Eyes

They also changed the mast arm and retrofitted the red and ambers on 12-8-8 on the other side to LED using the same Dialight module. The greens were left incandescent because they had 3M adapters and couldn't be retorfitted.
