We use the bi-color arrows. How are those wired? Are they wired like two separete arrows (two wires for the yellow; 2 for the green)?

Yep, the green and amber arrows are separately wired. Here's a typical sequence.

Here, sometime the bi-color arrow will trun green while the full light is red. Then when the arrow goes yellow and shuts off, the main light goes green. The one you showed is equally common as the one i mentioned.
