Don't use standard alkaline bateries!!!!!!!! Shocked i did that once. The solar cells will recharge it. As you know, standard batteries aren't rechargable, so they leak. That happened to me.

What i do is I buy some rechargeable AA batteries and a 15 HR wall charger. When the solar pad on the light fails to give the battery an ample charge, I put a fully charged battery in and the uncharged battery which was in the solar light is put in the wall charger. I also take my solar lights in the weekend before Thanksgiving. I left them out all winter one year and after the 3 feet of snow melted, the solar lights' metal parts were rusted out and they were usless. you don't have to worry about 3 feet of snow in Texas I hope..... Shocked

i don't think there's much to worry about, especially since i cut the wires going from the cells to the board. Smile

i made them out of those Westinghouse mini solar lights. They're more like desk candles but they give off good light. Laughing Check my gallery. i'm sure there's a pic of them under Lights Made by Michael.....

They still sell the rechargeable batteries in Ace....I also have a low price hardware store near me that sells Ni-MH and Ni-CD batteries
