Yeah I was surprised too. The end happens to be large and flat enough at the right angle.

The blasters with the 9" refractor could stand up too. Imagine a four foot long B2213 standing up.

I can stand my 135W SOX GEC Z9554 street light up right on it own no propem and that thing is 3ft long

same I have 2 8ft fittings I can stand on end
(Not recommended) and a 40W T12 fitting I can balnce on my finger no problem

Is it just me, or does the refractor look backwards on this?

It's the correct way. It's just designed that way. But typically the refractors are wider toward the street end.
